The White House has launched a new tool for the citizens of its country which allows the people to report for bias censorship on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. According to the form where people fill in their grievance,
“SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS should advance FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Yet too many Americans have seen their accounts suspended, banned, or fraudulently reported for unclear “violations” of user policies.
No matter your views, if you suspect political bias caused such an action to be taken against you, share your story with President Trump.”
The form is hosted online on TypeForm. Visitors have to enter their personal information like full name, citizenship status, platform (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube or other). They’ll have to upload screenshots and links of the offending content and a description of the action taken against them. It also asks you to sign up for a newsletter from Trump’s office towards the end.
A Twitter spokesperson spoke to The Verge,
“We enforce the Twitter Rules impartially for all users, regardless of their background or political affiliation. We are constantly working to improve our systems and will continue to be transparent in our efforts.”
Other Social Media companies have, however, given no statement whatsoever. Republicans have aimed at social media and they claimed that many conservatives posts have been targeted by these platforms. Trump’s son, Don Jr. also said on Twitter “The purposeful & calculated silencing of conservatives on Facebook & the rest of the Big Tech monopoly men should terrify everyone”
All of this began when last April, Diamond, and Silk were invited by the House Judiciary Committee to discuss the censorship on social media. This led Sen. Ted Cruz later into making it a big issue where he held hearings with both Facebook and Twitter representatives over this alleged bias.
Whether this issue actually exists currently remains unclear and we’ll have to wait for new developments to spring up.
